Well placement optimization

Author’s method for the selection of optimal well location and drilling of a side-holes is based on using reservoir models of hydrocarbon deposits.

Method of well placement optimizing take’s into account localization of initial/residual stocks with definition of the basic scheme of their placement in deposit and estimation of drainage areas. Geological and physical characteristics and factors affecting the intensity of fluid filtration potential in the reservoir are defining.

Fluid filtration potential model based on reservoir model and allows to define zones with an optimal set of main reservoir and geological properties. During the placement of projected wells (in-fill wells) this method provides receiving of the maximum possible projected production indicators. Side holes with ensuring the high production levels and infiltration area are placing on the basis of localization of intensity filtration potential zones. Besides the solution of optimizing tasks it is possible to use the method to solve other problems like improvement of field development systems, maintenance of reservoir pressure, development of unconventional hydrocarbons (oil and gas from tight reservoirs, shale gas and oil, coal bed methane).

Author’s methodology (it is protected by the patent) of wells placing optimization is realized in the corresponding software which allows to carry out data export/import and to process multidimensional arrays of data from modern software systems for field development simulations (CMG, Eclipse, etc.).
